Geographic Information Systems (GIS) For Homeland Security: Use Cases and Applications

Synopsis

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate’s (S&T) First Responders Group presents GIS for Homeland Security: Applications and Use Cases, co-sponsored with the National Information Sharing Consortium. This course includes a selection of instruction presentations from the Capacity Building Webinar Series that showcase various geographic information system (GIS) tools and technologies used for homeland security and emergency management. Each lesson features instruction, lessons learned and best practices presented by field practitioners and national leaders.

Objectives

This course will prepare students to…

  • Understand various geospatial visualization and analysis tools that support homeland security and emergency management
  • Identify best practices and lessons learned for using geospatial tools to support planning, mitigation, response and recovery operations
  • Access and download geospatial data, tools and guidance
